Evaporator Coil Cleaning

Evaporator Coil

Your evaporator coil — also known as an A-coil — is usually located inside the house, attached to your system. A crucuial part to your air conditioning system, it’s main job is to “absorb” the hot air inside your house. Over time, your a-coil will get dirty, and possibly clog up. A dirty or stopped up a-coil will cause your system to stop cooling. In some cases, it can even cause water damage to your home!

Does Your Evaporator Coil Need to be Cleaned?

  • Do you feel little or no air coming from your vents?
  • Do you see water inside your house, around your air conditioner?
  • Do you have pets that shed, or a lot of traffic in and out of your home?

Can I Clean My Evaporator Coil by Myself?

You should not attempt to clean your own evaporator coil! Often times, cleaning the evaporator coil will require you to disassemble your air conditioning unit, including temporarily cutting the refrigerant lines. This exposes you to the risk of electrical shock, the possibility of damaging other parts, or coming in contact with the refrigerant. Without the proper tools and knowledge, you can also cause permanent damage, requiring that your evaporator coil be replaced.
